SCUSA Conference

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point held its 64th Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA) from November 7 to 10, 2012.

Civilian and military student delegates represented universities across the country and from more than 30 countries internationally, with military students representing each service academy. The conference addressed the most critical international issues in U.S. foreign policy, encouraging students to discuss and develop policy recommendations relating to this year's theme, "Leading in Lean Times."

The Participants

Delegates engaged in 12 hours of discussion of their tables’ issues, culminating in a collectively written policy memo from each group, and a final performance for the delegation. The students also attended a panel discussion featuring Richard Kidd, Stephen Daffron, Col. Jack Jacobs, Col. Cindy Jebb, and Brigadier General Tom Consentino; enjoyed an address from the conference keynote speaker, Susan Eisenhower; interacted with numerous professionals and retired military in their field of interest; and were immersed in the cadet lifestyle.

Bard seniors Liana Mitlyng Day, Daisy Soderberg-Rivkin, and Roy Zabludowicz attended the conference as delegates, and each represented Bard at a different discussion table. Mitlyng Day served on the Nuclear Proliferation and Weapons Control table; Soderberg-Rivkin served on the table that addressed Diplomacy, Democracy, and Development; Zabludowicz served on the Costless Wars table.
